Abstract
To study the males? sperm among infertile couples, we have done sperm analyses of infertile men in the infertile-andrology laboratory of center of Health System and Policy Research and Development in Surabaya. This study was a laboratory research using data of patients who visited our clinic since January 1, 2002 to December 31 2004, the analyses included volume, consistency and PH of semen, as well as concentration, motility and morphology of spermatozoa. The results indicated that from 191 male patients , only 5 cases had normal spermatozoa, while 186 cases (97,3 %) had abnormal sperm condition. The impression of spermiogram results indicated that asthenoterato was the highes (71 cases), followed by oligo asthenoterato (38 cases), and the extreme oligo asthenoterato (26 cases). We recommended that sperm analyses has to be the first test for infertile pairs, before conducting more complex examinations, which will need high cost and extra effort. The sperm analyses is also used to evaluate pre and post medical and/ or surgical therapy of infertile males.
