Abstract

From our previous investigations it has become known that
there is a toxic constituent in the oil part of the sagabean.
(Adenanthera pavonina L). This toxic constituent(s) until now
not yet chemically identified, cannot be affected (destroyed)
by the simple process of ordinary household boiling in water.
It may therefore be useful to investigate the effect of
three different ways of processing by heat viz. roasting, frying
and pressure-cooking as applied to the sagabean and to compare
the results of ratfeeding experiments obtained with that of
boiled sagameal detoxified by defatting with n-hexane.
