Abstract

Hundred and ninety two woman head hair samples collected from some beauty saloons and from the Skin Department of RSCM (The Central Public Hospital) in Jakarta had been analysed for total mercury by instrumental neutron activation analysis during September 1983 through March 1984. High levels of mercury in hair had been correlated with mercury poisoning. Correlation with environmental gradient is indicated according to designation used by the research investigators as yes or no. The result shm1ed that 43 · samples got more than 50 ppm mercury content, which were stated as the "tentative toxic levels" will be discussed in this paper.
