Abstract

The paper reports the results of a follow-up survey of family planning acceptors from Mojokerto Regency, a rural area of West Java, Indonesia, between April 1971 and Maarch 1973. The last four months of thus period Larked the initiation of special acceptors drives throught Indonesia. The drives exceptionally successful and resulted in a five-fold increase in monthly acceptance levels in Mojokerto Regency. The major findings are: 1)IUD acceptors in both the regular program and the special drives are highly persistent and successful contraceptors 2) Pill accceptors are less succcessful than IUD acceptors and 3) special drive pill acceptors are significantly less succcessful contraceptors than their regular program counterparts. One year after acceeptance, all method continuation rates are very high for IUD acceptors in both programs (approxiamately 90%), lower for regular program pill acceptors (66%) and lower still for special drive pill accpetors (25%). The performance statistics for IUD acceptors i both proframs compare favorably with international experience while that in the special drives is below the median but well within the range of international ex experience.
