Abstract

A study to prove the occurrence of dengue virus transmission transovarially in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in relation to the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever has been conducted in the municipalities of Palu and Gorontalo. The objectives of this research are to identify the transovarial transmission of Dengue virus and the number dengue infection on the larvae of Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus in Palu and Gorontalo. Three analytical approach i.e. mosquitoes larvae survey, imunocytochemistry analysis by using monoclonal antibodies and RT-PCR were conducted in this study. Based on the analysis above showed that transovarial transmission has occurred in the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti in 8 village in Palu region with transovarially infection rate ranged between 7.14% (North Birobuli) up to 93.33% (Tana-modindi) of each of 15 samples of mosquitoes per village that were randomly taken from F1 and F2 offspring in the field. The other result showed that 2 of 4 villages in Gorontalo area also indicate a transovarial transmission with transovarially infection rate between 15.38% (Ipilo village) to 20% (Libuo village). All in all, this research result showed dengue transmission in Municipalities of Gorontalo and palu occurs vertically (transovarially). This evidence demonstrates the potential high transmission of dengue in the region. For that reason. More serious vector control intervention especially larvae control and hygiene and sanitation promotion are expected to suppress the number of cases of dengue infection in Palu and Gorontalo.
