Abstract

Prevalence of several NCO's and its risk factors (smoking, BMI, WHR, blood pressure, and blood glucose) were found higher in three previous surveys in 2003, 2002 and 2001. In order to, it is very important to development and to implement the intervention programs using more comprehensive strategies through more intensive and routine activities. The intervention for NCO risk factors control programs requires a comprehensive program with the focus on risk factors control, which needs to be supported by several aspects such as policy, social environmental aspect, community participation, capacity building, and health service function. Health Promotion strategy from Ottawa Charter will be developed as a concept which emphasizing on local potential resources and its limitation. The general objective of this activities is to control major NCO risk factors in Depok city through an integrated and comprehensive program with the focus on community participation, which is supported by cross programs and cross sectors development. Strategies for NCD risk factors control program are: (1) Coordinating policy (2) Enhancing social environment (3) Enabling strong community action (4) Capacity building (5) Reorienting services. Experiences described in this project are a result of process evaluation of NCO control program in Depok, and it is not yet a final condition of the program implementation. Motivation and facilitation through encouraging health system and networking, as well as flexible operational guideline, are substantially important for NCD control program. Therefore, this project is expected to attain appropriate model of integrated community-based NCD control program, which is sustainable and applicable to be adopted in each regional program.
